Past Accomplishments


A proud history of action and results


Langley Seniors in Action has brought the collective voice of seniors to the table and made a real difference in the Langley community. Here is a quick list of our accomplishments over the past seven years.

Housing  


  • 2015: Founding member of Triple A Senior Housing from 2013-2015, hosted a Seniors Housing Summit with recommendations made to municipal and provincial governments.


  • 2017: Hosted a Panel of Langley City and Township Mayors and our elected MLA on Seniors Housing and Homelessness.


  • 2017 – 2019: Worked to bring to the attention of the community and stakeholders, the issue of “Mixed Tenancy” at the Langley Lions Housing Society and identify it as a Public Health Crisis; generated the report “Impact of Housing First and Supportive Housing on Frail Seniors” and presented it to the Fraser Health Authority & local governments. 


Transportation


  • 2015: Conducted a Seniors Transportation Questionnaire with 250 Langley seniors, presenting findings to local government to encourage a Seniors-Only Shuttle Bus.


Seniors’ Education and Awareness


  • 2013 – 2020: Held Seniors Issue-based Information Sessions at least 9 times per year.

  • Provided a home for the Langley Community Response Network to focus on issues of Elder Abuse.


Community Collaboration


  • Partnered with Fraser Health and community stakeholders to develop Seniors’ LINC (Langley Integrated Network of Care),
     
  • Member of the Healthier Communities Partnership’s Poverty Reduction Task Group since 2013.


Community Service and Support


  • 2014-2015: Organized All Candidates Meetings (Langley City and Township of Langley), focused on seniors’ issues

  • Hosted “Get to Know BC’s Seniors Advocate”, with Isobel Mackenzie

  • Hosted a Townhall Meeting on Election Reform with John Aldag.

  • 2016: Submitted a petition of 500 signatures to the Federal Government for a National Seniors’ Strategy and a Minister for Seniors for Fall sitting of the House of Commons
