Stay Safe | Frauds & Scams
Take extra precautions to protect yourself and your money!
Thieves may find a way in times of confusion or change to steal your identity or convince you to sign up/ register to buy something that isn't real. Check out the list of recent and on-going scams here.
Here are some good safety tips:
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
- Avoid making snap decisions, tell anyone pressuring you to "sign up" or buy something that you need time to think the offer over then run it by a friend or family member.
- Collect your mail frequently - mail theft is on the rise
- Don't give out your SIN, date of birth or 'maiden name' to anyone you can't verify as legitimate. The government will never text, email or call you asking for this information
- Recorded messages announcing that your benefits will be cut-off or you are behind in payments are fake. Hang up.
Don’t feel too ashamed, overwhelmed, frustrated or scared to come forward. There are people able to help you. Click here for more information.
If you think you may have been scammed call the Langley RCMP non-emergency line for 604-532-3200.
